Well that was entertaining.
Good to have some feedback from Jodi Hodgson (via Facebook) from the game:
I was lucky enough to be at the game. FREEZING by Perth & Fiji standards. The town it was played in was only 20,000 population. Around 1,800 - 2,000 at the game at my estimate. A solid crowd of locals. Many from the local school that Jonah Lomu went to. The school provided much of the pre game entertainment - AMAZING!
It was pouring rain early in the day and rain at times during the game. So impressed with the local support & quality of the game in the wet conditions.
Entertainment included 2x haka, a Samoan dance, local chart topping rap group, fire dancers, school choir, before & after game fireworks that brought the cops out.
A rowdy crowd loved the game & cheered every tackle & try. A great first game in NZ.
The feedback was positive. A great night had by players & the Crowd.
Thanks Jodi.......
You could hear the crowd above the players on TV so mre spectators than a Rebels game!
C'mon the
2k is a good result. I was a bit worried when I saw the empty hill on TV.
I wonder how many would have turned out to watch that game in one of New Zealands most populace cities considering the large amount of Samoans living in NZL.
Is there a replay today?
Enjoyed the game. Throw a half dozen real marquee players into each team and they would be a serious handful. But it is a pity if they can't keep that Samoan team together until next year. The big difference was visibly the familiarity and organisation Fiji had from being together full time, and Samoa needs that too. Shame no-one thought to slide them into the NRC this year, playing out of Western Sydney. Would have ticked all the boxes...good for Samoa, something for WS, no impact on SS, and no need for NSWRU to do anything.
Fair question, given it was played during business hours WA time. But other than Kayo on demand, for today I'm not sure.
Going forward (even assuming not the case this year) then that might be fair enough - if they're wanted as a streaming partner.
Otherwise it seems RR put replays up on youtube some weeks later - and a highlights clip soon after the game:
