Tin Tin actually went to a rugby-type boarding school that produced a lot of Wallaby players - and hated it. He was not a sports kind of bloke.
So good luck talking rugby with Ms Palaszczuk. The ALP in Queensland knows one kind of rugby, and that's rugby league. RA better bring a good deal to the table because there are no votes for them in rugby union, which is also well behind AFL or soccer.
All this talk about John Howard and Mike Horan is eons ago. The nineties (and very early noughties) were the heyday for rugby in Queensland ... Australia too, for that matter ... but those days are looong gone. Did the Abbott government, led by an ex-rugger, reverse Rudd's reversal to, y'know, wheel out the election pork barrel? Of course not.
Rugby's influence has declined from a low position to an even lower one.
There are a number of inner city seats that are up for grabs in the Federal Election. The election may be won or lost in Queensland.
The plans for Ballymore that Tin Tin got rid of also involved housing all Australian Rugby teams such as 7s, Wallabies, under 20s and Wallaroos. O’Neill was looking at having a centralised national academy there. That ship has sailed along with other sports getting arrangements elsewhere.

Maybe. But if you understand anything about Ballymore then you know many residents of that inner city area don't particularly want a stadium (or even a sports academy) in their neighbourhood bringing traffic and noise, etc. It's the NIMBY effect that exists almost everywhere. If such a development is to be resuscitated, then the proponents would need to emphasise it is intended as a "boutique facility", blah blah blah ... with typical attendances under 5k, occasional events above 10k and absolute max 18k.
Anyway, we've digressed. Suggestions that the QRU are soon to stage an AGM coup against "Patsy" Clyne are rumours based on cigarette-paper thin evidence at best - and more than likely just hot air.
But, hey, I won't be standing in their way if it happens!
Just won't be holding my breath.![]()
The NIMBYs don’t have to move to an area that has had a stadium since the mid 60s.
I believe the plans are to downsize the stadium itself to about 5,000 capacity as it won’t host the Reds again and highly unlikely that the A League side will move there.
The QRU and the VRU are the least likely to stage a coup as their Super Rugby sides will be gone without the RA. NSW more of a chance particularly if they got rid of Roger Davis. Their constituent unions NSWCRU, SRU and the Subbies have issues with the RA particularly to do with grassroots, pulling of funding, have to pay for the Shute Shield coverage as pointed out by Alan Jones when he destroyed uncle Cam and the RA levy.

I’m assuming Brett Papworth’s 2018 rallying cry to community rugby has become a whimper?
Proudly Western Australian; Proudly supporting Western Australian rugby

I wonder how much Papsworths attempted coup has progressed. Would be nice if we got an update that things were moving forward. Hopefully a few WA clubs raised an interest and are working towards their inevitable freedom.

Well now Julie Bishops free. There’s someone with some integrity who could take on the RA board.

And she is from WA so no chance!
