What can you say about a Tournament sponsor of such unlimited generosity?
Have you heard of the prize on offer from the magnaminous sponsor to the winner of this prestigious tournament named in the brewery's honour?
Wait for it folks--a dozen, yes, a whole dozen, cartons of beer. And they'll even deliver it to the door of the winning club!
Enough to make any club president salivate at the thought. Enough to make any coach champ at the bit to risk injury to his best players at the prospect of such a magnificent reward. Enough to make any player of quality proud to take part in a tournament held in such regard.
If my information is incorrect, let RugbyWA or the sponsor deny it. I bet they wont.
I consider this to be an insult to the WA rugby fraternity in general and to the local clubs in particular .
Better to offer no prize at all and let the players play for the love of the game than to dignify this disgrace by giving naming rights to the sponsor.
If any other union in the world was offered such an offensive slap in the face
as a prize for a showcase tournament they would send the sponsor packing with a flea in its corporate ear.
But not in WA apparently.
RugbyWA, in this instance you are pathetic. Show some pride. Tell the sponsor what it can do with its miserable product, and give some dignity to this showcase event by offering decent prize money.
Anything else is contemptible.
And finally, God it's nice not to be associated with any club other than as a spectator and to be able to say what everyone really thinks.
