If it's for work, you need to turn off all the pretties and save bandwidth. You'll be amazed how much smoother it gets when you do that!
If you're having dropouts, I'd get somebody in to look at the stability of your networking, it might be as easy as moving a couple of meters closer to the access point.

I use inSSider on my phone to check overlapping wifi channels which can often be the issue even if you're showing full signal (used to be free..)
