I thought they played ok considering I expected a much larger loss.
The ref was a joke though. Penalty try for what? Burton sent of for I infringement! Stormer so offside all night and totally ignored until the end and the a penalty but no card. Totally inconsistent.
Benny Mc had an awesome game. Alby was filthy being hooked.
May the FORCE be with you!
Tonk i agree with the you on the penalty try. No warning and bang penalty try. But we are still our own worst enemy when the dumb commentators even mention not kicking the ball back when you have an overlap you gotta have a good hard look at yourselves. What the fuck is wrong with passing the ball to mr cummins? I still say we have to stop blowin smoke up certain players asses. I've said it before and i'll say it again some of our back line need to stop thinking they are wallabies already. I must say Benny as captain was awesome, in the clowns ear all night when he took over.
I liked the way they mixed it up with up the guts play and then some width. Some penetration but unfortunately not close to the line.
Oh, PS Mr Foley,....please ban the silly grubber kick. And let the lads know that if we have the numbers and an overlap, it's ok to run....
Great game to watch and sullied by the ref (points already made in this thread). I still do not understand why Foley is using the bench so sparingly... the last 10 mins when the subs were on just added to the freshness of the pack. This is happening too many weeks in a row. Let the starters run hard for 60 but you can expect a game change from the subs in 8 mins....![]()
Yes, I was quite disappointed with the reffing tonight.
A penalty try in the first 7 minutes of the match, the first scrum penalty, whilst technically correct, I've never seen it. Usually a ref is a little more measured rather than running to the spot to get his mug on TV and "Stamp his authority on the match"
I thought he made a rod for his own back allowing the stormers to dive all over the ball on the floor, making for a very messy breakdown where it was hard to tell what was going on. He was so busy trying to sort that mess out that he completely ignored the fact the the Stormers backline were routinely offside, sometimes by as much as a metre.
Then the yellow card debacle.....if offside inside the 5 is a card great! but keep it consistent, given the respective passages of play and the speed with which each team was approaching the line it's more likely that the Stormers offsides were the cynical ones, because were were inching towards their tryline at a glacial pace, where the stormers were hammering us and the rucks were all over the place.....Burto could have been literally in the wrong place at the wrong time.
with all that taken into account though, we were at fault. When the interpretation at the ruck is "keep your feet optional" we didn't push the limit like the Stormers did. When we're knocking on the door for like 15 phases at the death, nobody had a plan for how to break the line. for the entire game, we kicked the ball into their 22 with either no chase, or a lone badger causing difficulties but one against three it's pretty easy to get out of.
Marcel was the only player (in about 4 weeks) to run a switch line, and it actually looked to confuse the Stormers, perhaps that was because they didn't realise we had that skill! Keep Marcel at 13, he looked miles better than Kyle, who didn't make a single good decision all night. Laid some good tackles, made some great runs, but any time he had to make a decision, he unerringly chose the wrong one.

Despite the loss we walked away very happy. It was a good game to watch for this year.
Honestly I felt like we were back to pre 2014, stuff the win lets play rugby. Of course ref calls never go our way.
Mike Fraser needs to remember where the head and neck starts. It wasn't once the stormers went high in the last ten!!! Of course we do something wrong in the 22 and its a yellow card. They do something repeatably and no penalty.
I couldn't agree more. Giving a penalty in that instance would probably have been justified, but there's no way the ref could have claimed that a try was on the cards had the penalty not been committed. As I've said before, there seems to be a spate (.....not speight) of penalty tries being given this season, and I agree with your comments about the ref trying to get himself in the spotlight. A lot of inconsistency with that one last night as well, as others have been pointing out.
Being the wooden spooners doesn"t sit well with me. Leaves a real dirty taste in the mouth. If ever there was a time to change things it it now. Giggs i agree with the comments about Kyle and Brache. Time for kyle to have a break i think. Sam as captain bye bye. Benny Mac was great as the skipper.
They never stopped trying, and trying hard. Two stupid ref calls and us panicking when we were in their 22 made the difference - so close to an awesome win. Despite the lack of attacking structure in the backline I came away from it a lot prouder of the boys compared to last week. I'll still keep turning up.
I think a good thing about this game was the amount of offloads we were attempting, and they were getting good go forward. I personally think this is the way for us, we aren't making great ground through our regular attack systems for whatever reason, the offloads seemed to rectify this problem. Few weeks ironing this down and we could be quite the attacking team.
Are they actively looking For an attack coach or was it a decision not to have one this season?
Wests Scarborough 1st Grade juggernaut has played finals rugby each and every year since its inception and continues this remarkable feat yet again this season and unbelievably it's still rolling on and as an added little circle jerk for the masses Wests actually hold the record for the current longest unbroken finals record.
