We are staying a few days in Dubai in November on way back from World Cup, can anyone suggest a good reasonable hotel as have no idea what Dubai is like.
This one looks passable. Only around $1500 per nite too.

I was looking for something a bit more upmarket.
My brother built this one...its a bit out of town.

The Trade Winds.. reasonable, quite well placed... and if you're there during Ramadan they still look after you..![]()
There are a few hotels in Dubai which aren't 5* or 6* and which might be reasonable. The Burj al Arab is very nice (although I've not stayed there myself) but that will be ~$3000 a night, minimum.
Depends if you want to be in Dubai or one of the suburbs (there is now a pretty good rail system, and my experience of taxis in Dubai is good - plentiful and cheap-ish). Le Meridian is right by the airport and is only(!) $225 a night and I found a couple of hotels in Dubai at similar prices (eg, Arabian Courtyard, which is a bit older). Go out to Media City (between Dubai and the Palms) and you can find hotels for ~$150 a night (I think I stayed in the Gloria, but it was a while ago). Media City has no night-life so everywhere will be a taxi ride, possibly negating any savings on the room.
Get onto a hotel comparison site (eg, Agoda or Wotif) and you can quickly see what the various prices in each area are. I think you'll have to be unlucky to find a poor hotel in Dubai these days as they simply won't stay in business if they aren't good, it just depends on how much luxury your wallet can afford!

Or skip Dubai and go directly to the Maldives where my brothers next project is just opening. Ask for friends and family rate.
