Qantas Wallabies backrower Hugh McMeniman will miss the remainder of the Castrol EDGE Rugby Championship and Spring Tour after being forced to withdraw with a shoulder injury.
Medical staff yesterday re-examined a pre-existing shoulder issue McMeniman carried throughout the 2013 Super Rugby and deemed the best course of action would be a complete reconstruction.
McMeniman will undergo surgery next week in Brisbane and will be sidelined for six months.
It’s a disappointing blow for the talented 29-year-old backrower who was chosen in new Qantas Wallabies coach Ewen McKenzie’s inaugural Test line-up in Saturday’s opening Bledisloe Cup clash at ANZ Stadium.
The match was his 22nd for the Qantas Wallabies but first since he last wore the Australian jersey against Wales at Millennium Stadium back in 2008.
The Qantas Wallabies will travel to Wellington on Wednesday morning ahead of Saturday night’s second Bledisloe Cup encounter against New Zealand at Westpac Stadium.
Tickets for Australia’s next home game in Brisbane on September 7 against South Africa and all other matches in the Castrol EDGE Rugby Championship are available through Ticketek.

yeah, mowen looked lost at 8 for the brumbies in the final.
Mowen played on Saturday?
Fardy hasn't played backrow since coming back for the brumbies has he?
He also hasn't looked the journeyman he did at the Force.
I wonder whether there is a link and Fardy shouldn't be considered anything other than a specialist lock?

Feel quite sorry for Madness this bloke must have some of the worst luck when it comes to injury.
Hope you feel better soon Hugh.
It is great to see Western Force players wearing the Gold of the Wallabies (there would or should be more if the selectors would look further than NSW)
Madness has two kinds of luck and you wouldn't want either!
Just when he gets a chance injury bites again.
Hope you repair well and are back for the start of the new season.
May the FORCE be with you!
