ROBBIE Deans's decision to overlook Reds star Quade Cooper proved he was trying to "sabotage" Australian rugby, according to former Wallaby Greg Martin.
In a stunning outburst, the Queensland great slammed Deans for holding a grudge against Cooper following the flyhalf's "toxic environment" rant last year.
Cooper, who has not played for the Wallabies since his comments in September, was yesterday left out of Australia's 30-man preliminary camp for the British and Irish Lions Test series, starting in June.
"He is kidding if he's not picking Quade Cooper," Martin told Triple M this morning.
"In other words, Robbie Deans wants to sabotage Australian rugby. This has been a conspiracy on the internet since the (2011) World Cup that he was put in as a Trojan horse to ruin Australian rugby. It's almost getting to the point I say that's true.
"He's made it about who he personally likes, not winning games.
"(Cooper's) not the one sabotaging Australian rugby, it's Robbie Deans."
Martin said Cooper's diamonds-or-rocks playing style was what was needed against the might of the Lions.
"This year Quade started slowly but now he's back with Will Genia they're exceptional," Martin said.
"In 2011 that's how the Reds won their (Super Rugby) championship. They're back together and starting to slay defences.
"(Cooper) is the only way we can beat the British and Irish Lions - everyone else (vying for No.10) is pretty pedestrian or isn't used to Will Genia.
"There are a lot of five-eighths around who can do things to keep you in the game but he does stuff that wins you the game."
Yawn, and this will be the entire premise of Rugby HQ tonight, tune out everyone!

Greg Martin is a one eyed, half brained idiot whose barely coherant ramblings are frowned up on by Kim Jong Un as being voiced by a egotistic madman of questionable morals
Doh! That's what I get for going to the ARU website to check for dates of matches!
Mind you, Cooper got injured in September 2012 and underwent surgery on his knee, so would have been out for the EOYT anyway. Still means Greg Martin's rant about Deans not picking Cooper due to the toxic environment outburst is a crock of sh*t - he was injured for the games the Wallabies have played since then.
Cooper has had his chances. Opposition teams know how to put pressure on him now and his chickenshit streak is well exposed. There are quite a few ahead of him for the 10 shirt. Maybe a starting 10 slot is what's making JOC consider a return to Perth.

I bet the Rugby club team were behind the whole "toxic" saga to undermine Deans (which wasn't needed). And told QC to say this that and the other and it would all work out fine because Link should take over.

The best way for Quade to respond is in his performances. If he shines brightly until June, he'll have to be included. I'd like to see more teams test him the way the Irish, All Blacks anddid, then we'll see if he can overcome the odds and grab the game by the scruff of the neck, or will he be a player who only shines when things are in his favour?
(It's like the old Mundine vs Daley/Fittler argument all over again!)
