Wessels settles in to Canberra
The Brumbies have enlisted the help of one of South Africa’s most promising defence consultants with David Wessels in the ACT to share some of his know-how for the next month.
Wessels has previously worked with the world’s tightest provincial defensive team the Stormers and also spent time with the Western Province Under 21’s.
Debate has continued to rage around Brumbies HQ that there will soon be no-one left in South Africa. Wessels joins fellow Saffas like Eye Gym expert Sherylle Calder, Team Director Ray Dearlove and Head Coach Jake White at the Griffith Training Centre until after Christmas.
“There is certainly a very strong South African feel around Brumbies at the moment, I feel quite at home with so many fellow South Africans,” Wessels said.
“I’m hoping we are going to be able to bring the best of South African rugby here to the Brumbies to bring the club back up to where it should be.
“Defence is a key element to rugby it’s literally half the game. We need to be putting as much effort into our defensive patterns as we are attack.
“If teams can’t score points against you then they can’t win. It’s as simple as that.”
Wessels has returned to South Africa for the weekend to attend the wedding of one of his close friends but will be back early next week.
The promising mentor will be used by the Brumbies throughout 2012 Super Rugby season...

You should work at the Daily Tele TOCC or channel 7… However I prefer the foregoing line to your abridged quote selection from Wessels, “ Defence is a key element to rugby it’s literally half the game. We need to be putting as much effort into our defensive patterns as we are attack."
Brumbies did let in 437 points in 2011, so I hope he's good, no I hope he's a bloody magical defensive genius, as incurring those point against mustn’t happen again in 2012...
Wessels has a big job to do before February…
