Nedlands Rugby Union Football Club has reinforced its commitment to the responsible serving and consumption of alcohol by undertaking a new City of Nedlands initiative called DrinkSafe.
Neddies is one of the first clubs to undertake the initiative which aims to promote an anti drink-driving message and encourages sporting clubs to take on greater responsibility when providing alcohol.
The club participated in demonstrations by the West Australian Police and the Department of Racing, Gaming and Liquor which focused on the effects of alcohol consumption, driving under the influence and sports club specific liquor licensing regulations.
As a result Nedlands Rugby will now provide food and non-alcoholic drinks whenever alcohol is served and is introducing a safe transport policy.
Neddies president Hans Sauer believes the DrinkSafe program is a great initiative that highlights values already held dear by the club.
“It’s all about looking out for your team mates, both on and off the field. It’s important to maintain responsibility for your own actions but also to look out for those around you especially when alcohol is involved,” he said.
