Hi to all the geek TWFers.
I have a very old computer and want to buy a new one. Or at least the CPU bit as the screen is quite new and, well, a keyboard & mouse are a keyboard & mouse, right?
BUT:
How do I get all the the stuff that's installed on my existing one onto the new one? Outlook, keeping the emails that are already in it, the web browsers, keeping the bookmarks, plus whatever other programs, like Office and stuff. (as you can see I am very technically minded....)
You'll need to reinstall the software. Moving the user profile (where your shitelook emails and stuff like that) is easy.

Get an expert to do it for you. It's relatively inexpensive.
But don't forget to delete the porn first....
Remove the Hard Drive from your old computer, place it in a USB Hard Drive Caddy and then you can plug it into your new computer and copy your data across at your leisure. Then you can sit it in the bottom of a filing cabinet somewhere and treat it as a backup of all your data as at the date you retired it.
As for applicatioons, you'll have to reinstall them all from your installation discs.
But as Fulvio said, get someone who knows what they are doing to do it and save your old computer for a while until you are confident you have all your old stuff just in case.

in case of what,coach?
I don't know - I just write the stuff... maybe it was meant to be just in case they don;t know what they are doing?

BTW - Mouse and Keyboard may also need replacing. Most new PC's no longer have PS2 sockets, and most old mice and keyboards do. It's all USB now.
