Education is Important, but Rugby is Importanter!
IRB have always been very fussy about what's on the strip during World Cup......remember no sponsors' logos, World Cup logo on the (I think it was left) breast. national logo on the other one.....so on, so forth.
I haven't taken enough notice of a recent springbok jersey to know but I would think it's something like "you can have the national logo on there, but not a second one" given that choice, and the current political climate in ZA I can imagine the pollies would have found the choice simple.
Use the protea, and ditch all existing South African rugby tradition.

Yeah, looking on rugbyshop.com, they seem to have a Protea logo on the left and a springbok on the right. IRB won't allow that in a World Cup, but they would allow one national logo.
Interestingly, it seems the 2009 jersey had the protea logo intermingled with the springbok...........there's a little bit of desensitisation going on there. Could they not just use the logo from last season's jersey for World Cup years? or is there a bigger agenda (Namely, laying the blame on the IRB for removing the springbok from the jersey and never having it return)
I'm not pro-apartheidt, but this doesn't seem to be an affirmative action type thing, more like petulant foot stamping because we're now the biggest boys in the yard and we can pick on you now!!!!!
I don't see any evidence of the sort of politics which was espoused by Invictus!
C'mon the
a glaswegian with a speach impediment ?
I'm not South African so maybe I'm missing something but moving the Springbok to the sleeve instead of the chest part- does it really matter? They aren't throwing away rugby tradition they are making one small move that shouldn't really matter. Now if that one small move leads to bigger and bigger moves (renaming the Springboks the Proteas or changing the colour of the jersey) that would be a different issue. At the moment its just making a mountain out of a mole-hill.
Would anyone really care if they moved the Wallaby on our jerseys onto the sleeve and replaced it with some other symbol that Australians can identify with like our coat of arms or the Southern cross?
Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast.
I would like to know who named our team "The Wallabies" ..can anyone help?
Sadly no mention of the mighty "Wombats", the Australian Farnarkling team...
Better than tat showpony Sorensen, who always seemed to suffer an 'unfortunate mishap' sometime after the umlaut, usually in the third wardle.
C'mon the
