WESTERN Force coach John Mitchell is poised to become a consultant to South African Currie Cup team the Lions.
There has been a lot of speculation about Mitchell's future since he announced recently he would not extend his contract with the Force beyond next year.
The former All Black coach's name has been linked with the Lions' Super rugby side, the Sharks and the Chiefs.
But Mitchell's manager John Fordham confirmed Mitchell would see out his contract with the Force, but would probably consult with the Lions in the Currie Cup, the South African provincial competition below Super rugby.
Fordham said a deal with the Lions was close to being finalised.
"John will be coaching the Force next season, but he will possibly have a consulting role with the Lions in the Currie Cup," Fordham said.
"It's not locked in, but it's highly probable. If this happens, he will have the full blessing of the Force."
Mitchell will also do some consultancy with Toshiba, which was part of the deal when the Japanese club loaned former All Black David Hill to the Force this season.
Fordham said Mitchell was yet to decide what he would do after next year's Super 15 season.
"There is interest in John Mitchell from all parts of the globe," he said.
