I want to know how they will redevlop the eastern stand and where the f.. k i am going to sit when they are doing this (if they do it). Send us back to Subi! i hope not...... I would like to see a stadium built at the West Subi .. u have the hospital to take the visiting team too and the subi hub to celebrate
Doing up MES is like trying to make mutton look like lamb....... i am not holding my breathe
I have to agree with finding another location as people have said we waste so much money dressing it up why not bite the bullet and build on belmont race course owned by the goverment and funded by the tax payer as racing is always crying poor heaps of parking a train line and even have a jetty for our boats could even run ferrys up and down the river use already in situ entertainment venues just build a good statium
that would mean no disrutions to the coming seasons built quicker
come on pollys use ya fat on top of ya shoulders
Well, I sat and watched the first semi last night and the main thought I had was "Wow, look at that stadium...got to envy those Sowetans!"
Had a bit of a look and found a good summary at http://www.joburg.org.za/fifaworldcu.../view/3307/280. Headlines that jumped out at me was "demolished and re-built from scratch", "40,000-seat structure" and "R280-million venue". Seriously, go and do the conversion of R280M and remember that that sum must have covered all the necessary steel and concrete (in 2006 when those things were in much shorter supply than now). Stuffed if I can figure the disconnect between that, what our lot are planning to spend and what we'll ultimately have sometime around 2020.
A$45 Million? Even if that's just material costs. (I'm thinking labour is fairly cheap in Soweto).
Can we just ask for the same thing?
Knock it down at the end of the next super season and build the bastard by the time the 2012 season starts.
Bit harsh on the Glory, WRF. Where will they play?
In fact, the seasons are:
Super 14: February - May
A-League: August - March
NRL (if we get a Perth-based team): March - October
If we get an NRL team ME Bank will be used all year round. If not, there's a 2 month break between seasons to get work done.
Given the Glory draw smaller crowds than us, much of the redevelopment should be done during their season and the June-July break, but that means it has to be a staged redevelopment, which means it'll take at least four years to do (at a stand a year).
There's a park near where I live with soccer posts. They can play there just need to bring some nets with them. Oh and a pooper scooper.
Glory crowds will fit in the Western stand and the Shed ATM, not sure whether Fowler will change that!

Could they squeeze in some temporary stands during construction?
