BOKS TO APPEAL BOTHA SUSPENSION Posted: 30 June 2009
The Springboks have lodged an appeal against the suspension of lock Bakkies Botha. This was confirmed today by Christo Ferreira, the SA Rugby Manager for Legal Affairs.
According to Ferreira the appeal will be heard on Thursday at 08h00 (SA time) via teleconference. The Appeals Committee comprises of Nick Davidson QC (New Zealand, chairman), Dennis Wheelehan QC (Australia) and Richard Omwela (Kenya).
An IRB Judicial Hearing found Botha guilty on Sunday evening of transgressing Law 10.4 (j) by dangerously charging into a ruck without binding on a player. The incident took place in the fourth minute of the second half during the second Test of Castle South Africa 2009 Lions Series in Pretoria and resulted in Lions prop Adam Jones leaving the field with a shoulder injury.

Botha is a repeat offender, give him no clemency… 2 weeks is light weight the Boks cleary had foul play on the list with the eye gouging episode…. The Boks of old have come to the forefront once again…
Have to agree with Muddy, there.
Repeat offenders should get an increasing penalty, so say 2 weeks for first offense, 4 for second, 6 (or 8) for third, 8 (16?) for fourth.
Someone like Botha might have to play until he's 50 just to work off the suspensions!
