Braid's contract to be torn up?
Tue, 21 Apr 2009 10:44
Daniel Braid’s dream move to the Scarlets is lying in tatters after the Welsh regions head coach, Nigel Davies, confirmed that the players injury over the weekend could mean his deal is terminated before it even gets going.
Braid, playing for the Reds in the Super 14 over the weekend, ruptured his Achillies on Saturday and will now be out for at least six months following his surgery.
Speaking to the BBC on Monday, Davies said: "We will assess what that means in terms of him coming or not.
"There is provision [in his contract] with regards to a medical test and we will speak to him and his agent over the next couple of days."
With the injury almost certainly ruling Braid out of the first two months of the new season Davies admitted that his club were not really keen on the idea of signing an injured player.
"That's certainly what we don't want to do. Things are pretty tight and we are not in a position to do that.
"Hopefully in the next couple of days things will work themselves out."
Could work out well for the Reds. If he has no other options he might stay on for another season before heading North.

the horrible side of professional rugby, that would be a real shame for Braid, it could work out beneficial for QLD as well i suppose
Terrible injury and a tough outcome... he played some good rugby this year for the Reds...
Didnt Carter do the same in France? Nasty injury but may work in the Reds favour with Braid staying as im sure the Reds dont want to lose experience, hardness whatever. Apart from being a 100% goer with a bit of mongrul, ive read nothing but positive comments about him, on field and off field.
Shame Castle isnt staying with us!
the punters friend..... stick with me and you will be wearing
Poor bugger. As much as I was sad to see him leave the Reds, I hope his new contract is honoured. He is a good bloke and a fine rugby player.
While I've been really impressed with Castle at the Force- I am much more eagerly anticipating Tim Fairbrother coming over. Fairbrother is probably a bit more experienced, is eligible for the Wallabies and will likely sign on for more than one season (I hope!).
Another season with Braid will see Tasi Luafutu ready to take over and keep a fair bit of experience and leadership in the Reds pack.

as a Llanelli supporter , i really hope the deal doesn't fall through.....
"The main difference between playing League and Union is that now I get my hangovers on Monday instead of Sunday - Tom David
That's a real bugger for Braid, I only want to wish him well after what I've seen of him playing for the Reds. I hope whatever occurs is better than anything he could have anticipated.
Did I miss Tim Fairbrother's signature? I wasn't aware that deal was done.
C'mon the![]()

I was actually more looking at James' "more eagerly anticipating TimFairbrother..." It sounded like there was some sort of done deal that I hadn't heard about.
But get a dog up ya!![]()

I have heard, admittedly through sauces that can be described as neither certain or tomato, that its a lock. Even so, from what he said the other day it does seem highly likely at the very least him coming over.
The reason I was given for the lack of announcement was that Fairbrother was already under selection pressure from Jacob (?) Ellison and a signing on with an Aussie franchise doesn't do him many favours- particularly with the Canes being a finals chance.
Quietly confident.
