The amount of times I have heard, "Can't take the shot" from commentators .

From Law 9. Scoring.

A player scores a dropped goal by kicking a goal from a drop kick in general play. The team awarded a free kick cannot score a dropped goal until the ball next becomes dead, or until an opponent has played or touched it, or has tackled the ball carrier. This restriction applies also to a scrum taken instead of a free kick. Value 3 points.

Hmm, so it would need to be a tap and pass to your biggest forward, close support into contact to secure fast recycle and a pass to one of maybe two players in kicking positions. Riskier, but maybe still effective.

Well, that mainly. Plus relative ability. And age, I suspect. These are clearly minor considerations, well after the politics have been played.
