THE Western Force is hoping to capture Springboks and Stormers five-eighth Peter Grant as a replacement for Matt Giteau.
The approach, revealed yesterday in The Sunday Times, has been confirmed in South Africa by Grant's manager Chris de Beer, who is reported as saying he is expecting an offer in writing next week.
It is understood Grant's parents moved to Perth recently which could give the Force leverage in signing him as an overseas marquee player.
Grant, who has five South African caps, tops a short-list of players including Luke McAlister, who will leave English club Sale this year.
It is understood the Hurricanes are also interested in the All Black.
Grant was tipped to make the Springbok No. 10 jumper his own in 2007 after his debut against Australia, but was hampered by a shoulder injury that required surgery last year.
The 24-year-old, who can also play centre, has made 35 appearances for the Cape Town-based Stormers.
He is also being chased by French club Racing Metro and met with club representatives last month.
Last year, Grant was offered a big deal by a Japanese club.
