London - England manager Martin Johnson admitted his team had been given "a lesson" after a crushing 42-6 defeat by world champions South Africa at Twickenham on Saturday.
The 36-point losing margin was the worst the Red Rose had ever suffered on home soil since their first Test in England in 1872.
And the gap was the same as South Africa achieved in beating England 36-0 in a World Cup pool match in France last year before going on to defeat them 15-6 in the final.
But while the World Cup final didn't feature a single try, this match saw the Springboks score five through outside-half Ruan Pienaar, openside flanker Danie Rossouw, outside centre Adrian Jacobs, replacement back Jaque Fourie and star wing Bryan Habana.
Pienaar also landed three penalties and three conversions for a total match haul of 20 points with South Africa's other score coming from a conversion by Francois Steyn.

i knew they had it in them and only if they actually showed this game on tv!!!!
BOKKE“Let me put it this way, A Springbok team contains Afrikaners, Englishmen, coloureds and blacks. It has parochial foes in Bulls, Sharks, Stormers, Cheetahs and Lions. It is a recipe for war! Yet in all the years of John Smit’s captaincy, there has never been one unhappy customer, not one voice of rebellion against his leadership. He is the glue that holds the Springboks together. The man is a legend!”- Jake White
Hehe. I think it's so funny. The poms aren't much without Jonny Magical Boots Wilkinson.
Well done boks.
A kick in this game is like a rather nasty alcoholic shooter, only as good as it's chaser...

Yeah, but you needed the Aussies to soften 'em up for you to do it.
And what lesson is that Coach Martin Johnson? You're not what you were...or You believe what you read...
any team that beats England is a good team, just shows how much England have improved in a year zero
