PREMIER Colin Barnett will be told $50 million would be enough to build a new grandstand at Members Equity Stadium.
It would produce a 22,500 seat stadium and provide adequate corporate facilities for the Western Force and Perth Glory, Town of Vincent mayor Nick Catania said.
The premier and his sports minister Terry Waldron will be told that an upgrade is needed to keep both rugby union and soccer alive in Perth when they get an up-close look at the facility in 10 days.
Mr Catania, who will give the government deputation a guided tour, said: ``It was stated quite clearly by the stadium taskforce that there is a two stadium policy.
``Members Equity is that second stadium but nothing has been done about it. I think that was only a statement of appeasement.''
The council spent $5 million and the government $6.2 million to upgrade the stadium five years ago, Mr Catania said.
``Infrastructure was put in at that time that means we are ready to build a new stand.
``We would have it built in 14 months.
``I'm realistic enough to realise we're never going to get a Christmas cake but after the grandstand was built it would only cost a further $50 million to finish the project and raise the seating to 32,000.''
When complete Scheme 1 would turn MES into a 32,000 seater stadium, Scheme 3, a35,000 seat design, tagged the `ultimate' stadium was costed at $250 million in March last year.
BOKKE“Let me put it this way, A Springbok team contains Afrikaners, Englishmen, coloureds and blacks. It has parochial foes in Bulls, Sharks, Stormers, Cheetahs and Lions. It is a recipe for war! Yet in all the years of John Smit’s captaincy, there has never been one unhappy customer, not one voice of rebellion against his leadership. He is the glue that holds the Springboks together. The man is a legend!”- Jake White
That's the way Barnett, finally getting it right about the stadium.
"$50m stadium overhaul proposed for Members Equity Stadium"
That should nearly cover the cost of the bulldozer...

Plenty of zeros, not enough seats.

22 500 is lean. Does that mean there'll be no spare room for the "Blue Crew"?

yes please!!....
$50million isnt that bad, Skilled Stadium on the Gold Coast was built from scratch for only $160 million
hold 27'000
Oh, that's a pretty picture, TOCC!
Will we have the space on the sidelines that's required? Wasn't that an issue?

That's what we are after as a minimum TOCC, not this suburban hotch potch heap of crud.

beggars cant be choosers Burgs. I'll take MES over Subi anyday, I think alot of people would. I'm a member, I have a seat. I will even stand in the shed to watch the Force in a real ground. 22,500 sell outs with a great atmosphere will be better then heamoraging members and walk ups at Subi with no atmosphere
