You are just assuming that would happen, Melbourne is saturated as it is with AFL plus a large amount of the supporters coming to Internationals are visitors. It's really not a good place to go, AFL is stronger then ever, the solution? Try to get a piece of that non-existent pie.![]()
the pie would be through corporate support, thats why perth has a team!
there is alot of international companies in melbourne that would back a union team. there is alot of money in melbourne and a very large population that includes a heap of expats from sydney and queensland. (as well as a brand new rectangular stadium)
revenue on the ARU's behalf comes mostly from the television rights and increasing coverage of the country increases ratings which increases ratings. most contracts have target audiences in them that include bonuses for reaching numbers in certain areas, im sure when news ltd negotiate, they use melbourne as an area they wish to have growth!
im not saying its the best solution, but there has been alot of talk for many years about the brumbies heading south. it was being discussed a few years ago, and still comes up every now and then when players like gits and turq sign big third party deals that just arnt available in canberra.
normally that barrow is pushed by SMH.
if we were starting from scratch you could put up a pretty good argument for canberra not having a team at all!
or NSW
nah, if nsw folds, rugby in australia folds!
perth should just join south africa to make them competitive, wait, nah that wouldnt work, they would need better players to be competitive!
you cant bite the hand of the motherland gerry, you can push the little brother bandwagon as hard as you like but nsw rugby doesnt need perth, perth needs nsw rugby!
In 2000 NSWRU was having operating losses of $2mill and owed $5mill to creditors.
ARU had to load them the money from a loan from News Ltd against future TV rights and also sack 21 employees.
Could be said that why would you let in a team like that?
Maybe there are not enough corporate sponsors in NSW?
oh..and a smote to even you up again![]()
thought you would like that!
we have the talent pool! enough said!
there is no argument greater than actually producing talent to put on a rugby field!
Yes. We are indeed fortunate that lots of the cockroaches want to leave the castle if they are unsure of getting a feed.

paying borderline players like cam an extra hundred grand doesnt have much to do with it does it?
Thats nice you think Cam is bordeline...why was he choice Fullback over Turner then? Surely thet Tah would be number 1!
