I just read an article on the SMH website stating that the IRB wants to slug potential host nations for the 2015 RWC about $230 million and 2019 RWC about $258 million in order to secure hosting rights.
Can someone in Computer land put it up here?

Greedy IRB demands $250m for World Cup
Greg Growden Chief Rugby Correspondent | July 10, 2008
THE International Rugby Board has made an audacious dash for cash by deciding to slug countries an exorbitant $207million tournament fee to host the 2015 World Cup. And if any country wants to host the 2019 World Cup, it will cost a whopping $248m.
When the IRB announced after its meeting in Hong Kong on Tuesday that the hosts of the 2015 and 2019 World Cups would be decided in July next year, a major detail was left out - massive up-front tournament fees.

Wow.
Can anybody picture the ARU finding $250M to gift the IRB? O'Neil had a panic attack when they lost $2M on the ARC, how the hell would he sign a $250M IOU using money he doesn't even have yet?
I can see them getting the cash. They'd have to do some good financial modelling and make a good case for ROI then borrow it from Investors.
Potentially they could go in a partnership bid with a TV network for cash up front in return for coverage rights
I guess the question is who signs the TV Broadcast Right deal - the IRB or the host union - if its the IRB - its starting to smell like a double dip.
This is starting to get rediculous, with the IRB demand Clean Skin Stadiums (free from advertising) the National Jerseys free from advertising. Even players who wear head protection have to use strapping tap to cover up branding.
Exactly how are the host unions supposed to make any money out of the World Cup, They even have to give away half the tickets to the IRB.

"Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done! Now if you know what you’re worth then go out and get what you’re worth. But ya gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that and that ain’t you! You’re better than that!" - Rocky Balboa
Fair enough to!
But Ex, we had a bit of a giggle in '03 when NZ's inability to have cleanskin stadia gave us 100% of the games, didn't we?
Is it really worth spending that money on a World cup?? only some of the ARU dictators and some of the elite rugby click will benifit out of it. Look at NZ rugby after the world cup they hosted!!!
Just imagine how many Australian rugby players can benefit out of that money if spend correctly Clubs can upgrade there grounds ext.
Will WA get to host any games and if so will it be something worth watching.
I don't think even the hardest dictator would make a bid unless he seriously thought he would make money out of it, Pieter.
the world cup in NZ almost caused the NZRU to go bankrupting just because the kiwi's were eliminated early
They are still struggling to get over it

French rugby made a profit of over 33 million Euros from last year's RWC.
And the 2 Biilion the Govt made...hence the 250 Million fee
There is always money to be made, and O'Neil would not be looking at it if they wasn't. Perth well we got England v S. Africa in 2003 as well as Georgie, Samoa. So with the new stadium who knows who we would get then.
