Hickey takes over as Tahs mentor
By Jon Geddes and Iain Payten
June 02, 2008
In the wake of the Super 14 final loss New South Wales will embark on a bold new era when the board rubber-stamps the appointment of Eastwood's Chris Hickey as new head coach.
He will replace Ewen McKenzie, who walks away after five seasons saying he has no regrets and that he did it his way.
The changing of the guard occurs as inspirational skipper Phil Waugh denied there was a rift between himself and McKenzie after he did not mention his coach in the presentation after the final.
Waratahs CEO Jim L'Estrange all but confirmed Hickey's appointment by saying naming of assistant coaches would wait until Hickey was confirmed.
McKenzie is happy to facilitate a smooth handover by briefing the new head coach if he is interested.
