At Kingsway, premiers Perth-Bayswater narrowly defeated Wanneroo 17-13 in a close, hard game in wet conditions for the inaugural Bill Watt Cup match between the two northern clubs. Wanneroo opened with a penalty to fullback Troy Doughty but just before the break Perth-Bayswater scored a try to lock Brent Murphy, converted by lock Jock Stanley, to lead 7-3 at half time. Stanley added a penalty to open the second half but Wanneroo drew even with a converted try to Doughty at 10-10. Perth-Bayswater broke the deadlock with a try to wing Fabian Broughton, converted by Stanley. Wanneroo added a penalty to Doughty and closed the match strongly on attack but with attacking center Palei Masili out injured their midfield lacked penetration and they couldn’t finish.
