The Queensland Reds had been chasing the 20-year-old, who is tipped as a future Wallaby, but he said there were a number of factors behind the decision.

"I've loved my time in Perth and really enjoy playing my rugby here," he said.

    Bamm-Bamm our man.

    And from the West:

Western Force openside flanker David Pocock says his decision to re-sign with the Western Force until the end of 2010 was one made with the head, not the heart.

Pocock, whose mum, dad and two brothers are based in Queensland, was heavily pursued by the Reds but the 20-year-old said staying with the Force was in the best interests of his rugby career.

“Obviously family was definitely a factor (when weighing up the options) but for me personally my decision was more...

I honestly believe that this one is the most important signing for the Force this year - this is fantastic news.

"Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done! Now if you know what you’re worth then go out and get what you’re worth. But ya gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that and that ain’t you! You’re better than that!" - Rocky Balboa

So far the Force seem to be able to get the signatures of the players they REALLY want to retain. There's a real biggie to get next year so hopefully their record will continue.

Maybe these players are like many of us WA immigrants. We have the opportunity to move back to where our families are and there are other people and things we miss from "there" too. But on balance WA is a very hard place to walk away from and there's plenty of planes going that way anyhow.

These player retentions make a pretty comforting statement about the way forward at The Western Force and the people who are driving it. Wonder what the eastern media Pie Brigade make of it.
