A big hallo to all the Country Rugby players and supporters out there- Saturday saw the final tournament for the SW - held at Collie- it was a great success, the weather did it's best(or worst) but the Diggers were up to the job and supplied loads of marquees, we played 15's this week in preparation for Country Carnival and all four teams had full squads!! Games were all close- showing how far the comp has come with Duns winning the trophy- but winning two games by a single try!! It's been great to see the rugby community growing with Denmark, Bridgetown, Busselton and Mt. Barker tournaments all steps forward in the competition this season!!
What were the scores Dave?
We'll be looking forward to the Districts v Country game in a couple soon...
Brother Gallagher I hear you

Also on the weekend The Katanning Krushers played the first official fixture for the year against Narrogin Broncos.
These two teams last met in last years final which Katanning lost by 1 point. Narrogin scored first with a un-converted try in the rain but there was no chance of a Grand final repeat as minutes later Katanning kicked for touch and scored a classic forwards try from a 10mtr out lineout, the conversion was sucessfuly kicked and play resumed with Katanning running in there second try only a few hard runs after the restart, once again the kick was good. Narrogin players covering a misplaced Katanning kick ran in there second try for the day, placing down between the uprights for an easy conversion. Katanning led by 2 points but wanted to make it more before the half time
and shut down the advancing forwards to turn the ball over and run wide and deep into the 22 were play was slowed by multiple scrums and lineouts before the Katannings backs split the defence and broke through for the Krushers 3rd try, once converted it was half time.
The second half was a lot tighter with some big hits in defence and bad fumbles in the rain on attack. Again play was dominated by scrums and linouts for a fair while untill a Katanning player was red carded after a hard tackle was deemed to be too high and the Krushers continued on 1 player down. Katanning held out the home team for a while untill the ball spilled free on a Katanning attack allowing Narrogin to run in its last try for the day. Kicking was made hard all day by the rain and swirling winds displacing the ball from the kicking tee on a few occasions.
The players continued to leave the field as with 5 minutes to go a Katanning prop was yellow carded for a ruck infringement. From the following penalty Narrogin kicked for touch down at there 22. Katannings lineout was fantastic stealing the ball from a tired Narrogin and Katanning players chasing down the ensuing kick causing enough pressure to force the Broncos covering backs to hastily offload causing the ball to travle forwards and the Katanning scrum was brought to within 15 mtrs of our tryline a sniping run from our young scrum half allowed the forwards to flow over him and build the platform to allow Katanning forwards to dummy the run and offload to the waiting backs to seal the day with a fourth converted try on full time.
The game was played 12 a side with a little contraversy to the rules of forfeiture when neither team has 15 players. Therefore i can only say that the score was 17 Narrogin to 28 Katanning.

Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.
On the Country Rugby Theme. The country carnival is only a couple of weeks away. This year it will be held in Dunsborough. The highlight of the weekend will be the first outing for the mighty Busselton Jets. The Walla kids will have an interclub match while the older kids will play the Cowpats (Dunsborough's Golden Oldies Team).
Jeez those young fellas v the Goldies are such frustrating matches for the young uns
The old bastards just know where to run to really bugger everything up and when they have the ball they seem to have it on a string.
Every now and then you get to catch one though and he pays for the sins of his team mates
Oh crap, next year I could play Goldies![]()

Hey there country rugby fans- the SW players are just surfacing after their big win at the weekend against a spirited GS team!! This gives them the country cup for the first time in a while. The game was played at pace and showed what is possible from two teams determined to copy the Force and move the ball to space. For me it was a great end to a great 24 hours after watching and celebrating the Brumbies demise at the hand of a team with enormous self belief!! It is hoped this will spill over into Country Carnival in two weeks- many hours of planning have gone into it!! im now off to spread the gospel to Katanning youth!!
Nice work Dave![]()
