Giteau kicks the Force to victory

    Giteau snatches injury time victory

Matt Giteau kicked an injury time penalty to end the Chiefs unbeaten run and to win the match for the Force by 22 points to 21 in Perth on Saturday.

The match was an absolute thriller.

The last 12 minutes saw the lead change twice and Stephen Donald looked to have won the match with a drop goal with only four minutes remaining.

The Force were the better team on the day and scored three tries to the Chiefs two. The result also keeps the Force mathematically still in the hunt for the play offs.
    More to follow.

It was one hell of a team effort though

I haven't seen so much determination in a long time

I got the following of the Chiefs Web site

The final 20 minutes of the match saw the Chiefs throw everything at the Western Force, including a drop goal from second five-eighth Callum Bruce, to be leading 21 to 19 with two minutes to go.

However, a last minute penalty kick, secured by Western Force's Matt Giteau, stripped the Chiefs of victory.

The Chiefs earned one bonus point from this match. They now head to South Africa where they will take on the Lions and Sharks respectively.

The Chiefs get a BP for finishing within 7.

O'Connor was class. Timani was not. Bombed try at the end was his fault. Brumbies can have him.

chiefs get a bonus point for losing under 7 pts ....

sensational effort from the guys. much deserved win. i thought the new guys longbottom and jimmy o'connor were terrific aswell as pocock who was enormous. how he stripped the ball to stop the chiefs scoring a try is beyond me. hodgson, fava and giteau also played very good games

The new guys really impressed today.

O'Connor was outstanding, and that run he made towards the end was magical. This kid's gonna go big in the future. If only he was given more time, i reckon he'd be a bolter for the wallabies call up.

Longbottom showed he was ready for Super 14. And really held himself well throughout the game. I really hope to see him get more game time from now on.

Didnt really see Dane get much ball. But hey, at least he caught the high ball which came to him.

Shepherd was great as was Mitchell and Giteau. Pocock showed why he is one of Australia's best openside. Phil Waugh, watch out buddy!

Hodgson looked at home at no.8. And the scrums actually looked good with Longbottom in it. And especially when it was a Longbottom, Holmes and McIsaac combination. It actually looked a bit better.

    Thank god the Force won.
It was nailbiting, but definitely worth it.
I can imagine how happy John Mitchell is now, after finally beating his old team. and getting another home win.

    Well done lads.

Cowan might have done something to his wrist i think. Cummins looked like he either did his ankle or broke his fibula/tibula. and i think Takiari was having a bit of back pains. Just my guess.
