2010 BUNDABERG RUM RUGBY SERIES INBOUND TOUR PROGRAM
September 21, 2009 - 1:58pm
Story by: ARU
The Qantas Wallabies will play England in Perth and Sydney
Australian Rugby Union has today announced the 2010 Bundaberg Rum Rugby Series Test schedule with the Qantas Wallabies facing a series of challenges over a four-Test campaign in June.
The BRRS will open with a match against 2007 Rugby World Cup quarter-finalist Fiji at Canberra Stadium on Saturday, 5 June.
The following week will see the Qantas Wallabies kick off a two-Test showdown with England at Subiaco Oval in Perth.
The second game against the 2003 Rugby World Cup champions will be played at ANZ Stadium in Sydney on Saturday, 19 June.
The BRRS continues in Brisbane on Saturday, 26 June, when the Qantas Wallabies play Six Nations and Grand Slam champions Ireland – now the premier team in Europe.
A draw for the Bundaberg Rum Tri Nations will also be unveiled before the end of the month.
“It is an exciting schedule, a challenging program, before the Qantas Wallabies head into the Bundaberg Rum Tri Nations,” said ARU Managing Director and CEO John O’Neill.
“Fiji reached the quarter finals of the 2007 Rugby World Cup and Ireland won the Grand Slam earlier this year under their inspirational captain Brian O’Driscoll. It will be great to have them back on our shores.
“England finished second on the Six Nations ladder and had a comprehensive win over France during the tournament.
“So the quality of competition awaiting the Qantas Wallabies in 2010 is not to be under estimated.
“We should also have a reasonable gauge of where we stand against Ireland and England when the Qantas Wallabies play both those countries during their Grand Slam tour in November.
“It will be the first Grand Slam attempt since the 1984 side marched unbeaten through the UK and Ireland in the four Tests they played.
“Fittingly, this Grand Slam tour will come on the 25th anniversary of that magnificent achievement.”

Nice to see Perth keep its status above Canberra in ranking of test venues!
Saturday, 26 June Qantas Wallabies v Ireland Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane ... hmmm, this has the makings of a road trip.
CHEERLEADERS ROCK!!!
i really think the GC should have received a test match ahead of Canberra

was just thinking that this will probably mean that Perth will miss out on a Tri-Nations test match...
Think about it, Melbourne didnt get a game in the Bundaberg rum series, the ARU wont ignore them completely because its less then 12months before the S15 kickoff, the ARU wont send a Bledisloe to Perth because they get offered more money in Brisbane and Melbourne.
So, IMO this will be the 2010 draw:
Brisbane : Australia vs New Zealand
Sydney : Australia vs South Africa
Melbourne : Australia vs New Zealand
Yeah but its better that way TOCC. Mixes things up a bit. England haven't played in Perth since 2003. I reckon a game against South Africa every second year with a game against one of the northies evry other would do nicely. Something like 9% (or is it 11?) of people living in Perth were born in England. Big statistic!
You're right Canberra shouldn't be getting any tests. Boo Canberra. There are lots of Fijians on the Gold Coast aren't there? Put it where you will get the best mix of home and away fans. Also where the big new sports market is.
Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast.
What there ought to be is some Aus A matches to share around the smaller venues. Play the Island and Japanese teams, Argies until they join the 4N, midweek matches against the touring northerners, maybe get the Eagles and Canadians over, etc etc. It would have to be easier to find decent opposition for the A team than the Wallabies (although perhaps not on last weekends form), and I'd be down to MES like a shot to watch.

England will return to the scene of their 2003 Rugby World Cup triumph as part of a two-Test series against the Wallabies in Australia next year.
Australia are scheduled to clash with England at Sydney's ANZ Stadium on June 19, the week after locking horns with the old enemy in Perth.
It will be the second time Australia have clashed with England in the harbour city since Martin Johnson's men defeated the home side 20-17 after extra time in the thrilling 2003 final.
The Wallabies belted the Poms 34-3 in 2006 at the same venue.
Australia open their 2010 international season against Fiji at Canberra Stadium on June 5 before taking on England and then Six Nations champions Ireland on June 26 in Brisbane.
The Australian Rugby Union confirmed on Monday that one of the two Bledisloe Cup Tests to be played in Australia next year will be held in Melbourne.
"It is an exciting schedule, a challenging program, before the Wallabies head into the Tri-Nations," said Australian Rugby Union chief executive John O'Neill in a statement.
"Ireland won the grand slam earlier this year with an unbeaten campaign against England, France, Wales, Scotland and Italy.
"They are currently the premier team in Europe.
"England finished second on the Six Nations ladder and had a comprehensive win over France. So the quality of competition awaiting the Wallabies is not to be underestimated."
The 2010 Tri-Nations draw is set to be released before the end of the month.

Dear Lord, if you give us back Johnny Cash, we'll give you Justin Bieber.
So one minute you use the excuse that the Northern players are tired after a long season, now you want to throw in a few extra games![]()
Do you think you will live to see Wales win in Australia again?![]()
