Wellington Sevens 2017 Bring your noise. Bring your colour. Bring your crew, friends and your family - there's nothing else like it!
Wellington welcomes the vibrant and iconic HSBC Sevens World Series 2017. Two days of fast-paced rugby action and entertainment - Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 January.
due to declining spectator numbers, this may be the last time this event will be hosted in Wellington
Pretty sure The NZRU signed a 3 year deal with the Wellington organisers only last year, even though the Wellington city council withdrew funding for it.
Should have moved it to Forsyth Barr Stadium in Dunedin.
no use holding it there in the Uni holidays
Move it to Auckland bro.
coz Stone Cold says so
Estimated 10,000 spectators at Wellington yesterday.

"Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place and I don’t care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard ya hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done! Now if you know what you’re worth then go out and get what you’re worth. But ya gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that and that ain’t you! You’re better than that!" - Rocky Balboa
the fun police have destroyed this event,by most accounts
The Wellington crowd figure is courtesy of the same people who do the "crowd" counts for GWS!

Yeah but either way it's pretty piss poor. Regardless of any deal they have to move it.
Otherwise I'd wager NZ will lose the event. In a market that's only growing in popularity there would be no shortage of other countries to take it to.
Those countries would probably be cheaper to stage the event in as well in terms of logistics. The Sydney leg can back up/come before the asian legs and still be relatively as economical.
18,000 over the 2 days apparently.
