Giteau will stay for one more year

    Nick Taylor

    December 22, 2008 02:30pm

MATT Giteau will later this week confirm he will play for Western Force next season, ending speculation he was about to cut ties with the club.
The Wallabies star has accepted that he will see out the third year of his contract with Perth and will make announcement confirming the decision within days.

Force management initiated talks with Giteau last week, the first time they have spoken to him since he left on the Wallabies European Spring Tour.

When he speaks - and boy has it been a long time - I'll be happier - hopefully he is big enough to actually play for us rather than pounce about for a year

Right...now thats over we can get on with the season.

I think this is where Matt wanted to be for 2009 and see what the lay of the land was. He would be hardly wanting to go back to ACT if the new Coach turns out to be a dud and if Force were knocking on the door of a Grand Final appearance.

So lets let him play the season, see how things are panning out in Round 7 onwards and then offer him another contract for the Force in 2010 and 2011>

EXCLUSIVE by NICK TAYLOR: Western Force superstar Matt Giteau will sign a new two-year deal with the club.

Australia's biggest-paid, highest-profile player made the decision to stay in Perth on Friday.

He is expected to sign his new contract on Monday.

The dynamic back still has one year of his original Force contract to run and the new deal will keep him at the club through to the 2011 Rugby World Cup.

The Force and the Australian Rugby Union are expected to confirm Giteau's deal on Tuesday.

There is no way known that he will do anything but perform to his best, even he is staying reluctantly, which is something I doubt. If he was as you say to pounce ( maybe ponce would have been better) about for a year, his market value would tumble and it would most likely cost him a Wallaby spot and all that goes with it.
No, if he stays, as a consumate professional, he will give us his best. I wish him all the best for this coming season and for his future, wherever that may be.

    Go Gits!

Unless there are at least two rugby writers named Nick Taylor working for Perth Now, I suppose it is. Does that help?
