ok, normally i wouldn't bother you with things like this, but i'm so dang proud of the locals, i just hafta put it out there: Fresno State Bulldogs are NATIONAL CHAMPIONS in collegiate baseball... not so exciting, maybe, until you consider that of the 48 teams that qualified for the collegiate tournament, Fresno came in seeded 48th.. on paper, they had not a snowball's chance in hell.. 2 of our best hitters suffered from 1) a completely torn thumb ligament, which will know have to be rebuilt with a piece of ligament from somewhere else, and 2) 3 dislocated fingers on the glove(left) hand.. Who says baseball players ain't tough? luckily baseball isn't played on paper. They are the lowest ranked team to win a collegiate championship in ANY sport, EVER.. The boys took out one national powerhouse after the other, Long Beach State, Arizona State, North Carolina, Rice University (crazy name huh,,) and Georgia... Comparatively speaking, this is an underdog story on par with, oh, the Soviets defeating the U.S. in the 1972 Olympics in basketball, or say, let's imagine Japan (or the U.S.) winning the World Cup in Rugby... AGHH!! Big parade today, people coming together in a way that only sports seem to be able to achieve.. good times...
