Glory banned from A-League finals

Perth Glory have been banned from this year’s A-League finals series after being found guilty of cheating the competition’s salary cap.

The worst-case scenario for Glory was confirmed by Football Federation Australia boss David Gallop at a press conference in Sydney this afternoon.

Perth have been fined $269,000 for breaching the league’s $2.4 million cap to the tune of about $400,000.

Gallop said six players at Glory had been involved in the breaches, which extend back to the 2012-13 season.

Glory will have seven days to appeal the FFA’s finding.

Why should the Glory bother to play the rest of the season's fixtures then?

I know it will cost them revenue if they have home games left, but it would stuff up some of the other clubs and their association.

How would they adjust competition points between clubs that have played the Glory and those that haven't yet?

FFA's tv rights contract is for 5 games a week so that will ensure the games go ahead.

As for the points it will be similar situation to Essendon in 2013 when the AFL didn't let them play finals for using their players as lab rats.
