I heard the inital Government annoucement last July about a rebuild of MES but have heard nothing since
Ditto, it wasn't costed that high either. I heard a figure of $160 Mill.
There was also mention of it possibly being a greenfield project.
No details since Tuck Waldron threw that small media grab out.....(ie he got the publicity, but didn't bother following it up with any substance)
I have just been patiently waiting for the next state budget to see if anything was in it that would make us happy. $160 million was the last figure quoted though so look forward to hearing something else regarding the Stadium situation thats for sure
I hope the new one serves decent beer.
Which beer company gives the best marketing deal to sell their slop?
It would be great to see some of the local beers on sale at the game e.g. Little Creatures, Redback, and my favourite, if you can still get it, Swan Lager.
PERTH Oval, the new home of the Western Force and the home of Perth Glory since 1996, will be upgraded to cater for 27,500 people at a cost of up to $200 million, with a major announcement expected in August.
The Guardian Express understands the Town of Vincent and the State Government will reveal estimated timelines, preliminary design concepts and costings for the upgrade in six months. Town of Vincent Mayor Nick Catania said he believed Perth Oval, commercially known as ME Bank Stadium, remained the obvious choice to be Perth’s dedicated rectangular stadium.
Mr Catania said the redevelopment would take between 14 and 18 months.
“Obviously we are going to have to work around the playing times of the rugby and soccer seasons but this will be an adequate upgrade catering for sports every weekend,” Mr Catania said.
“In the long-term, if required we can look at further development and as rugby and soccer catch on, we can look at our options.”
Mr Catania envisaged a redeveloped Subiaco Oval would be able to cater for possible World Cup soccer games, if Australia wins in their bid to hold the event in 2018 or 2022.
In July 2007, the State Government, then headed by Alan Carpenter, announced its preference to build a new 60,000-seat stadium at Kitchener Park in Subiaco. But after the election of Colin Barnett’s Liberal party the plans were scrapped in February 2009.
A spokesman for Sports Minister Terry Waldron said last week any plans to rebuild Subiaco Oval or build a new stadium from scratch would not be reconsidered until at least February next year.

Needs more URL. Also its dated 23 Feb 2010.
The 14 to 18 month timeline sounds about right. I spoke to Tuck after the initial media release and commented that 2012 was too far away he needed to pull his finger out and get it done now, he replied that "2012 was not his timeline the West had put that in there", he indicated it could happen sooner that that.
The budget is next month, right? Dropping the word that an announcement will come in August could mean.....
1. They are waiting for a time when they can get some votes out of the deal
2. They are putting the decision off to see how things pan out after the move to MEBS.
3.They have actually done the figures and are going about things at the usual slow pace and we'll get there eventually.
Hopefully the last one.
