Or just have a riot!
Yeah... Isn't it a rugby rule? God that's embarassing. Well I learnt a rule today. I've always thought once the ball is over the line its out of play? Like in a kick? I remember one game clearly when Wepu caught the ball and nearly fell over the sideline, and the ball was WELL over but he wasn't and it was called play on. My Dad howled about it for weeks (we lost haha)! In netball the thrown in/lineout were it goes over the line like in a kick and a person can carry the ball over the line like in rugby and that's out, where the ball crosses. Now I think about it I've never seen what happened at netball in action... But I hope it wasn't an AFL rule. I'd die!
Thanks guys! You seem to know more about this than me! That's two things I've learnt today. Noone would believe I got 75% on my latest umpiring test if they read this
So far I've had really good spectators and coaches. I remember when I first umpired I had mother who kept taking the ball off the 10-year-old umpire (me) and giving it to her team. Every game. I didn't umpire there for very long...
Self confessed ignorant on the Netball Rules apart from what I see on ABC TV but don't they pass the ball behind the goal post at times?
That would outside the field of play but controlled by inside and play on?
are you talking about the GK throwing in the ball after the opposing team threw it out, or throw it behind the goal to keep it in play?
In play.
So both standing in play but loop the ball around the back.
i've done that and it has been fine, the ref said the ball is still in play, its perfectly fine to do that
So long as it doesn't touch the ground outside the court and both players' feet remain inside the court its perfectly fine.
So then it shouldn't be any different if the players feet are in the air too.
Anyway, the ruling is given above, just trying to understand.
