I'm looking for a book on the Australian Armed Forces during World War II... Something like a battle history... I found some good stuff online, but the name of good book on the subject would really help -- Thanks!!
Oh, I started looking for you sorry mate
I found some really good ones on Amazon.com
I will have a bit more of a dig around but don't have any personally to recomend at the moment.
There certainly are such things though
Thanks Burgs!
You may have found these but here are a couple of online options:
The official Gov site www.ww2australia.gov.au
A personal project more aimed at Homeland Security including the Pacific Theatre: http://home.st.net.au/~dunn/
From a TV Series of the same name but Australia in each of our conflicts: www.australiansatwar.com.au/default.asp
The Poms take on proceedings: http://www.historylearningsite.co.uk...lia_at_war.htm
I have a meeting in a few minutes but will try and track down those books I found earlier for you Thunderchook
Toburk and the Kookda trail by Peter Fitzsimmons ( his writing style is to try and go from the soliders point of view, normally get 6-10 perspectives on events during the book)
WHY ?
Try looking at books available from the Australian War Memorial, I know they had quite a big range when we were there. This link should take you to the WWII collection of books they have available...
http://cas.awm.gov.au/TST2/cst.acct_...form=Microsoft
If not, click on the books & magazines tab and on the left hand side there is a list of categories. Click on WWII and there's 3 pages worth of different books available.
Also the movie Kokoda is well worth a watch. If that is even 10% of what it was really like it is phenomenal.
Some of the best books I have read about Australia's war experience in detail was a series called Australians at War, first published in 1988 by Time Life books.
It depends on what you are looking for. Peter Fitzsimmons books give a very human perspective, has a place but also has downsides as well.
Thanks everybody!!!:D:D:D
Why? Well, I eventually hope to get my degree in History, and I'm thinking about Australia for a senior project...
Can someone tell me what channel was televising cricket this morning (dont know what game sorry). The people in the flat next door had cricket on as I was leaving for work, which confused me, cos I'm assuming it wasn't on standard FTA tele and I've been told there isn't a foxtel connection in my building- was it on OneHD?
who was playing?
