This is from an email at work:
"Hello friends and colleagues,
May is Cystic Fibrosis awareness month and I have chosen to take the 65 Roses Challenge because my happy, full of life 2 year old niece suffers from Cystic Fibrosis.
Aaliyah turned 2 on 11 May 2013, and amongst numerous day visits for regular invasive testing and procedures, she had just been admitted into hospital for the third time. To watch her being pinned down by people she doesn’t know so they can administer anaesthetic, and then watching the terrified look in her eyes as the drug takes effect is one of the most heartbreaking things I have ever seen. And then seeing this same small child quietly doing her best to continue on with toddler activities with one arm splinted and without the confidence to use it, immediately adjust and begin using her foot in place of her arm; with a big smile and now a sparkle in her eye just hours later, then warms your heart.
But the thing that is so wonderful about this is the fact that Aaliyah now has the chance of survival. While survival is not guaranteed, death is no longer the only guarantee. In the 1980’s sufferers did not live past their teens. Now in 2013 the average life span in 37 years. This is because of the donations and support that directly leads to funding for research that delivers knowledge and improved treatment.
However, the chance to live to 37 is simply not good enough. Aaliyah, like all of us, deserves the chance to live a full life and I am hoping to raise funds to increase these chances. This is where I ask for your help.
You can directly donate to my sister-in-law Tegan’s everyday hero page, Team Aaliyah: https://65roseswa13.everydayhero.com/au/tegan-mulcahy or you can take part in “Painting Optima Red” where I will be asking everybody to dress in Red on Friday 31st May, and make a donation which will in turn be added to the above page: Team Aaliyah.
Tegan has reached her goal of $700 and now I’m hoping to match that!! "
I realise you might be a bit low on funds due to the BI Lions jersey purchase, donating for Nathan Charles and saving pennies for buying beers at JBs for this weekend, and beers and memberships of Leederville Bowlo soon, but... if you could drop some money in for Aaliyah, that would be super.
