i'm guessing no one is brave enough to say they were a back :P
Just running a theory with myself, I have a feeling there are more Forwards than Backs who hang around in later years.
Use to be a pretty handy winger then I became a lock and ended up playing my last game ever as a Prop :verysad:
Sad to say, I only discovered the game later in life.
As one of my t-shirts says:
God invented beer to stop prop forwards from taking over the world.
or is that my by-line .........
As a young mungo I was a 5/8 then lock ( No8 for the uninitiated). But as genetics, and later on beer, took over I was promoted to the mungo 2nd row and hooker/prop for Rugby. I'm proud to say I played all positions absolutely without distinction.
That, Shasta, is consistency.
I was a gun
Initially I was scrum-half, but that was mainly because I was one of the few kids who knew anything about the game. Once other kids learned the rules I was quickly shifted to the front row and have stayed there. Never played at any great level, although I did play at Farnham where a (very) young Jonny Wilkinson was a few years behind me. He was good even then.
Once it was realized how slow I was I was told I'd make a good hooker. And there I stayed.
and lack of kicking skill.
Started as a 5/8
Went to UWA where 3 of the 5/8 from my PSA year were vying for that spot. I moved out to the centres, as I was a faster runner than the other two.
Played on the wing for my brief stint in Uni 1sts.
Never played in the forwards. Ever. And I am at peace with that. My shorts remained clean and my hair unruffled :iconrofl:
Unfortunately I've never played, but I watch the games with 2/3 of a front row. I'd like to think if I had the chance, I'd be the extra prop require to complete the set :)
As a little fella, I played loose forwards mostly. My playing career didn't progress beyond juniors ...
Started on the wing as a junior, then started smoking, womanising and neglecting training and fitness, lost pace and moved to flank... Damn, i couldve been...........lol
wing juniors then number 8 then lock as where I'm still playing now! still think I'm jonah lomu
