Cool Apps/Programs

I'm sure everyone's got their favourite mobile apps and computer programs etc. Thought I'd start a thread for suggestions to share with other TWFers.

Start the ball rolling. Ever had the message "This content is not available in your country/geographic location"
I used to get it when wanting to watch F1 news clips in the UK. Maybe you want to watch catch up TV in the US, UK etc and get that message also.

There's a very cool extension to your web browser that lets you watch programs in another country. It's multi browser/operating system. It's called Hola, is free and simple to use and can be found here

Ever looked up at the night sky and wondered what star/planet that was?

App 'The Night Sky' uses the GPS in your phone to name the different things in the sky (that's as technical as I can get)

Night Sky Lite is free,

IIRC the full bottle version is $1.99

on my phone, "tiny troopers" have saved my mental state during various boring times, cant remember if I paid for it or not, but its possibly the best app/game Ive ever downloaded

sleep cycle alarm is a good one (if you sleep alone)
Union Live is good - live score updates
Ultimate rugby - The one developed by BO'D
Stick cricket
Tunein Radio
Urbanspoon

Weatherzone is good also
SBS news - i use it daily. it sometimes crashes though which is a pain in the arse
Helicopter - (this game is what i blame for my bad grades in IT classes)

and LogosQuiz - really addictive!

LogosQuiz is great - also 4 Pics 1 Word is extremely addictive - on Android and Apple via App Store

Thats probably a list of most used apps between my phone and tablet

You mean to say they expect you to be productive while hey are paying you rather than watching sport on the net? Next thing you know they'll expect you to turn up sober as well!! :P

Pandora is a good music app. You start off with a genre or pick some music and then it plays similar random music which you can like or dislike and then it works out what you like and only plays that with an occasional red herring dropped in.

I just discovered Groopic. It enables the photographer to be in the photo he/she's taken - it's really fun :-))

Annoyed with the latest Android firmware upgrade's no lock screen controls?

I trialled a few workarounds and settled on this app which I've used the last few weeks and it works well - need to play around a bit to get it set up the way you want - ignore the dumb arse reviews. It brings up a page on your lock screen where you can control the apps you want eg, my pandora and google music player in image. I got the paid version for just a few bucks.

Want to get your Chrome tabs back - Settings (Chrome) > Merge tabs and apps. Then just turn the feature off.
