O'Young returns to the fold
The Emirates Western Force have signed scrumhalf Chris O’Young on a 3 year contract.
O’Young, who has spent the last nine months with the Glasgow Warriors in the Magners League, will fly to South Africa on Thursday but will not link with the team until it returns to Durban following its Week 2 clash with the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein on Friday night.
The 26-year-old scrumhalf has 28 Super Rugby caps to his name - eight with the Waratahs and 20 with the Emirates Western Force before departing for Scotland at the end of the 2007 season.
O’Young was one of only five players to play every game of the 2006 Investec Super 14 season with the WA club, making a further seven appearances in 2007.
Coach John Mitchell said it will be a welcomed return for the inaugural Emirates Western Force squad member.
“We lost Adam Clarke during the pre-season so essentially we were down to two halfbacks before the outcome of Matt Henjak’s trial.
We’ve been speaking to Chris since January and we’re delighted that it’s come to fruition that he’s signed on with us for three years,” said Mitchell.
“Chris has a proven record at Super 14 level, is well liked in the player group and is a great acquisition for us to bolster our scrumhalf stocks,” he added.
