I think we need to get at least one marquee of the standard of Cubelli, at least a couple of returning Wallabies that Checks has encouraged to sign up and one, maybe 2 league superstars on subsidised contracts. Anything less and the fallacy that the ARU taking over will do ANYTHING to level the playing field will be exposed.
Even talking about signing Ben Daley is worrying!
It's all academic anyway if our coach doesn't like them. The coaching issue needs to be resolved first.
Unless the coach has already been decided by the ARU and they are just going to go through the motions!
Ben Daley has signed https://www.westernforce.com.au/arti...ure-daley-west
The "injury-plagued" Ben Daley according to the Courier Mail....
And what's with the one-year signings? First Coleman now this one. Why only a year?
It's probably just a case of the Force/ARU not wanting to burden/put off the new coach with a long list of players that he doesn't see the value of.
Richard Graham signed on a lot of his favourites; some who only took up space in the roster and the Force didn't have the money to pay them out. Some were simply given the freedom to go!
Ben Daley probably wants to stay in Australia will need to prove that he's recovered from a pretty serious injury and prove that he can stay match-fit. May continue as a year-by-year proposition. But COULD prove of great value.
He seems the type of bloke who will mentor the younger players/locals.
As I posted on the other thread:
To move forward we have to replace with better than what is leaving.
In my books Ben Daley is a big step up from Millar and Hoskins so this a positive in the ledger.
Welcome on board Ben it will be great to have you.
Mixed news this morning with Luke Morahan set to extend contract but Kyle is likely off to brumbies with announcement imminent.
Western Force and Wallabies winger Luke Morahan is set to re-sign for the Super Rugby club ahead of Saturday night’s final home match against the Stormers at nib Stadium.
But centre Kyle Godwin, who scored in his 50th Force appearance against the Cheetahs last Saturday, may be playing his last home game for the club as the Brumbies are set to announce he has signed with the Canberra club
The West
We get Daley and Mozza set to recommit, but Hodgo still in the dark? Seems like priorities have gone missing at HQ.
I am not a huge Daley fan, but I'll confess I've not seen so muxh of him in the last few years since injury and Slipper/Holmes locking down starting spots. Daley had great workrate around the park but was often dished up in scrums. A few years on he could be a whole lot better in that department. Holmes was in the wilderness for almost 10 years before re-emerging at RWC time.
As the Reds have posted themselves it's tough to lose a good 'club man'. Never underestimate the benefit of bringing in an experienced player who can contribute to the team both on and off the field.
More concerning is what looks like Godwins departure to the Brumbies. Godwins career is on the up and he has yet to reach his considerable potential. It's a shame to lose his services to the Brumbies for what will be his best years as a pro. Players like this are the guys you want to be able to hold and develop because you know at some point they will shine and kick some butt.
To the detriment of the Force, you need to have good players, good facilities, good coaches, money, great fan base and a city with a great lifestyle to keep and attract talent. We are only delivering in maybe 2 of those areas. We need to do some serious self evaluation as to where we want to be in the sporting landscape in order to turn things around. If we don't respect ourselves as a sporting organisation we won't command any respect and will continue to be a doormat for the rest of the competition.
So if Godwin leaves, should we move Tapuai back to 12? He hasn't been amazing at 13 and always played his best rugby at 12 where his passing and kicking games are better utilised. He'd also have a better crack at the Wallabies as Kuridrani, Kerevi and Folau look more likely options at 13.
I'm all for playing guys in their best positions. None of this "he's a wing but can also cover 12 and 13". Have the best players playing in their best position. We don't need a team of swiss army knives.
Seems like the Force are the landing spot for a lot of Reds players. GAGR chatter that the Force may be looking at the second coming of Moses? All speculation until things get announced.
Moses played rugby? No wonder they call it the game they play in heaven 😝
