Alison can I suggest perhaps a subtle nuancing of the delivery. Maybe more a simple stating of the facts approach. You (and the Force) don't want to give any ammunition to others. I think the facts, and statistics speak for themselves.
Thanks T - yes, I agree it needs to be less 'partisan'.
Feel free anyone to have a go at putting something together if you'd like to. I'm not going to be able to get to it for at least a couple of days as I'm up north for work.
PM me an email address if you want copies of the Word docs to work from.
Alison PM sent. Also Hansie needs to get on Alan Jones before the EGM!!! For all the obvious reasons.
So the Rebels will go for damages either way and the VRU & Rebels are acting as seperate organisations with seperate goals.
Is it a case of the ARU wanting to keep the Rebels to at least have one group that is more disfunctional than them as the inevitable implosion occurs.
Bunch of snakes.
Also, as far as questioning the financial viability and sustainability, we really need to get those numbers up to prove it is less a question and more a fact. Rebels are calling fake news pretending it is all hunky dory when they are a train wreck.
And that $33million only covers the 3 years from 2014 to 2016!! Don't forget the other $21million-odd they received in grants in the 3 years from 2011 to 2013. So that's a total of around $54million over 6 years compared to around $29million to the Force, INCLUDING the $3.7million we got from the sale of our licence & IP to the ARU!
As an aside, I have also noticed that in 2010, the ARU's overall profit for the year was a little over $1million. Hardly a great buffer for the introduction of a 5th SR franchise was it! No wonder Clyne said they knew almost as soon as they had issued the licence to Melbourne that 5 teams wasn't sustainable. Another FACT that need to come out at the EGM next week!
Just to add to my last post, these are the profits and (losses) the ARU has reported since 2010:
2010 - $1million
2011 - ($7.5million) - blamed largely on it being a RWC year
2012 - ($8.2million)
2013 - $23million (courtesy of the B&I Lions tour)
2014 - ($5.5million)
2015 - ($6.3million) - again blamed largely on it being a RWC year
2016 - $3.7million - thanks to the bumper TV deal agreed for 2016-20, to which the UK's BSkyB was a substantial contributor
Hahaha! I know, right?! Sorry! Don't worry if it's too much - I have AndrewG on the case as well!
Do you think it's a story worth telling though? The more I dug, the more I wanted to dig! And that's from the cupboard that's open to the public - imagine what the other cupboard must look like!!
What case do we have to stay if it isn't spread?
Both Sinderberry & the Rebels have taken the position that 1 team needs to be cut, the Rebels are fighting that fight by signing and leaking signing of players while RugbyWA has been silent, maybe they have their hands tied?
So we probably need to fight it for them by using the Rebels constant financial failure as a big stick. They are an absolute disaster and it needs to be made common knowledge. It helps the case of sacking the ARU board as well as having the floor fall out from underneath Cox's ridiculous value of the team. The true value being less than junk, not $4.75 mill, not $12 mill, bugger all as they can't balance their books.
The whole East Coast is in denial that the Rebels colossal financial falures even exist yet this is the sole reason we are going through this "unsustainabilty" crisis. $20 million of the $28 million Clyne regurgitates and $13 million in loan writeoffs has been completely squandered by the ARU by paying off creditors in Melbourne and pandering to Mr Cox. $33 million lost, vanished without recourse or explanation.
I post about it as much as i can on here, GAGR and Facebook. You all should too. Every ARU or Foxtel page on social media should get a daily reminder of the shambles that is the Rebels financial sustainability.
Alison - is it possible to also draw up a graph displaying the monies given per team as per year? Maybe a breakdown comparison of clear unencumbered grants/donations & player payments ie Rebels seem to think the $33mill included player payments or are they separate?
