They haven't dropped Warner?
Peter Dutton should strip Tim Paine if his Australian Citizenship for choosing to bowl on this deck.
Can't blame the deck for poor lines and lengths, or spilling catches. Looking at the swing Marsh is getting, Broad might well have ripped through the Aussies. Not sure batting last is a good idea though.
Oh youse of little faith.
as they say,"wait until both sides have batted"before commenting on the toss!
Indeed. Overnight score was honours even at best, and the Australian line-up has only ever been one good ball to Smith away from a train wreck. It is not like the poms don't have swing bowlers too...
Australia well on top the conditions are perfect for batting. Average score in the 1st Innings at The Oval is 368.
Colour me blind it looks Mitch Marsh has learnt something in County Cricket. Like Shane Watson he struggled to move the ball now Marsh has developed swing bowling he can set up batsmen. Also gained an extra yard of pace. Way he got out Bairstow was excellent.
We wasted all those years sending blokes to the IPL now we are going back to what worked in the past League and County Cricket.
Dunno if anyone is being sent to the IPL. More like lured.
They are encouraged to go and the ACB sign off on their no objection certificates. It just not IPL they are playing, some go to the Caribbean and Bangladesh Leagues. In the past all Aussie players who have played test Cricket in the modern era played league and County Cricket in their off season. Gilchrist played in the Middlesex League at 18.
No coincidence that Labuschagne is our most improved batsman. He plays little T20 and has a tighter technique. He went down the League and County development route. Both Marsh brothers have put T20 on hold and Maxwell has dialled back his commitments to focus on their first class careers.
Hughes, Warner and Smith are the only quality batsmen we have produced in the T20 era. We wasted Hughes’ talent and the selectors stuffed him around. It is alarming that at 32 Warner hasn’t played any County Cricket and it shows. He struggles in English conditions and should have done more to get better rather than go on a caravan. Smith played Lancashire League Cricket just out of school.
When the IPL first started no English player was allowed to play in it as it interfered with their County commitments. They had a stronger test team back then. Now their test team is loaded with T20 biffers, they have made the same mistake we have had made by putting first class Cricket on hiatus at the height of the Summer, bowlers can’t stay fit, counties sign players just for T20 and they are bringing in a hideous new format called the 100 next year.
Archer and Roy haven’t played first class Cricket in a year and it shows. Some players have retired from first class Cricket just to play one day Cricket.
Should have batted first.
