Is your arse multipurpose
Front page of the West says that the stadium has the capacity to 'drop in' seating for 'rectangular' sports. If true, that makes me very happy :-))
You still can move the "outside seats" any closer to the action, so only the "drop in seats" will be a bit closer to the action for rectangle sports, but you will be at ground level.
Yeah, true. But it's better than nothing I guess. They have to cater for the 'oval' sport first as it is (and will always be) the most widely supported. So, if they're only building the one stadium, this is the best option all round I suppose.
Will the cricket be played there too like at the new Adelaide Oval?
I agree Jargan :-)
Very fair point BnB!
Can't say that fills me with much enthusiasm. That angle of vision implies a very, very long way to the ground. It also shows just how shallow the seating is, and it will be interesting to see where the supposed additional 20,000 could be added.
Do tend to agree that the rest of pictures do tend to look a lot like an upmarket Subi, with everything still behind the stands. But our enthusiasm is neither necessary or important; we'll just have to wait and see how it really looks. One thing folk should bear in mind in future though - the price tag is 2014 dollars. It will cost more before it is finished, but that does not necessarily mean an overrun.
I have no problem with ground level seats as that's how it is at NIB and most other rectangle stadia.
But it needs to be done, not kept oval. That's awful.
And look at the rugby pitch in the picture, they can't even draw the pitch properly, what chance do we have for the stadium?
Still vote the rectangular sports get to redevelop subi in line with a mock up GIGS did way back when
I agree Jono, though I'm a WACA guy, so I'd like to see that ground in particular redeveloped so we can keep the WACA name alive in international sport. I have a similar idea though.
On a side note, why do we need so many fully-appointed WAFL grounds?
The Sports Overlay image suggests it will be another Subiaco Oval (As mentioned in previous posts). For the majority, even with drop in seating, it will not be spectator friendly to watch rectangular field sports there.

I hope to be proved wrong. :)
Don't kid yourselves people, test matches will be played at Kitchener Park Burswood as soon as its finished in 2195 or whenever the construction company decide they've screwed enough over budget bullshit out of the state government. It will remain in oval configuration because AFL players can't play with even a bent blade of grass on the pitch.
This stadium is almost exactly the same proposal which was put forward all those years ago, the main differences, the price was higher then 1.1 billion, mainly inflated out by land costs, and 60,000 cup holders and 2 tvs, I guess they've got something for nothing in that deal, but weekly rugby soccer (and eventually mungo) get precisely nothing from this proposal and should continue to consider NIB as their home. The WA government will never build a proper rectangular stadium, and are unlikely to build phase three of NIB, so enjoy it while it's new and pray that all of the teams that occupy it are successful enough for private enterprise to see value in building an improved venue some time in the future.
Far too much whinging, read it again... We get CUPHOLDERS !!! Yippee !!!
This is the exact self same technology which enables tens of thousands of people to buy crap Korean cars and think that they are high performance and cutting edge.
CUPHOLDERS! Wow, Mr Barnett is so good to us.
