Ruru Re-signs for Two More Years
The Road Safety Western Force have re-signed exciting scrumhalf Michael Ruru for two more seasons, after a strong start to his Super Rugby career playing nine games for the Western Australian club, including three run-on starts this season.
The Nedlands local has had a remarkable rise to Super Rugby, starring in the Pindan Premier Grade since 2012, before three quality seasons with the Perth Spirit in the National Rugby Championship.
Ruru says his first season of Super Rugby has been an incredible experience and the Road Safety Western Force was the only team he wanted to continue his career with.
It’s been pretty amazing, I really didn’t expect to get as much game time as I have this season. I knew it was going to be tough, but I feel I have brought something that fits to the way we play the game.
“I’m thankful that the Force, Dave and all the coaching staff have trusted me and put faith in me since pre-season started, and I’m just trying to repay them, the state of WA and the Road Safety Western Force for giving me the opportunity.”
The hard-working number nine has built his game on a solid work rate and strong running game, sitting in third position in the Super Rugby competition for scrumhalf runs and says that’s the way he likes to play the game.
“As most rugby fans do, I just like running rugby. I like to play hard, to play well and if I get to go on a few runs then that’s a bonus, but I know we’ve got some great attacking threats on the outside of me who can do that too.”
Road Safety Western Force Attack Coach Shaun Berne says Ruru has been a barometer for the team this year and a vital part of the backline.
“Michael has been a real revelation for us in terms of how well he has played when given his opportunities,” he said. “He’s a guy that plays with real passion and desperately wants to win. I’m delighted that he has re-signed with the Force.”
Ruru will be primed and ready for the Force’s Round 16 clash with the Melbourne Rebels at the ‘Force Field’ on Friday, 7 July.

Another very good re-signing, great attitude and has tried to make every post a winning post.
Really heartening news! Brightens up the week. Well doneMichael.now a few more signing!
Fantastic!!
I'm liking the signings were making as well,
Where the rest appear to be grabbing everything that's available from outside their organisation, we are looking to retain the quality we've got. The wallabies boys will be fending off extreme pressure from the coaches to sign with the tahs or the brumbies, so it's not surprising that is taking a while
Even though RUPA are restricted in their response it doesn't stop the players voting with their feet. Force re-sign 3, Rebels lose 1.
Hardwick, Arnold and Ruru are good retentions, all 3 have shown their capable at this level with improvement to come.
Come on Adam, make the commitment!! The Force are the ones who got you here! (And your hard work)
Onya Ruru!!
