New Faces Shine as ET Perth Spirit Shoot Down Aces

The ET Perth Spirit’s new recruits have starred in the 60-15 victory over the East Coast Aces in front of 3,117 fans at Members Equity Stadium in Perth this afternoon.

Winger Ed Jenkins celebrated his call-up by scoring a hat-trick of tries, while fellow debutants Luke McLean and Kane Allen added five pointers as the WA side went about dismantling the young Aces backline.

Scott Daruda was an impressive performer, scoring 25 points and controlling play around the field. Halfback Matt Henjak was his usual dominant self, and was named Man of the Match.

The sides exchanged penalty goals in the first fifteen minutes before the home team exploded with three tries in six minutes. Jenkins and McLean were joined by Ryan Cross in scoring first half tries, before Aces winger, former Emirates Western Force squad member Brett Stapleton, marked his return to Perth with a try to reduce the margin to 22-8 at half time.

The second half was one way traffic as the Perth team added six more tries through Jenkins (2), Daruda (2), Richard Brown and Allen. The Aces added a converted try of their own through Henari Veratau, but struggled to defend against the expansive play of the ET Perth Spirit backs and the dominance of forwards Luke Holmes, Scott Fardy, Tom Hockings and Brown.

Anyone heard yet on Daruda's injury? I know Henjak has pulled up pretty tight and is starting to question his decision to delay surgery

Yeah, wasn't aware of Daruda though I think he may have done something as he scored his try.
Agree with Hennas as MOM even with only 55 minutes as he was the difference when the match was close.
Ed Jenkins certainly would have made at least four Scouts a little red-faced!
An awesome debut in a team of virtual strangers.

Gosh, they did well, especially given the short notice for some of the players.
    Woohoo!!!!

And the rain held off, too

Hope Henjak and Daruda are OK

Just goes to show what can happen when the likes of Daruda & co get to play what's in front of them without a highly structured game plan. I think they score more tries yesterday than rest of matches in total?

They scored 9 tries yesterday, prior to the game they had only scored 10 for the whole ARC season....And if i remember correctly Sheps had scored 69 of the teams total of 109 points to date....

    Update:
Daruda has a hamstring strain. Doesn't look too bad though. He'll see how he pulls up in the next day or too.

Henjak is pretty sore but will take the next day or two off to recover. He should be ok to play but will probably only play half again

Also i thought it would be good to note that Daruda didn't covert the final two tries despite what the announcer kept saying. Stannard kicked the 80min one and i'm not sure who kicked the 71st min one (i'm pretty sure it was Stannard) as i was too busy watching daruda who was being attended to by the medics.
