Thumbs down Recreational Drugs In Sports

So the federal government has stepped up and stated that more drug testing is required all year round, not just match days....

Why stop with sports people?? Surely if it's the role model argument others should be subject to the same scrutiny?

I'd like to see politicians subject to the same tests, TV personalities, Chief Rugby Correspondents (we're all dying to know what they are on!!), Public Servants (they are public figures too - just ask Barbara Bennet) where should we stop?

Performance enhancing drugs are a different matter, although for some politicians, I'm sure some recreational drugs would improve their performances! (and probably have done in the past eh, Kev eh?? )

They better up the budget in a big one, some of the stuff cruising through his system hasn't been given a name yet For the benefit of Eastern readers that would be Swan Lite .... clearly a performance enhancing substance as no one in their right mind would drink in recreationally.

According to the muppets writing for the Daily What it's name here in Sydney, Joey Johns took drugs due to a bipolar disorder. Frack me, the dude was busted, admitted prolonged drug use, suck it up NRL. For the next excuse trotted out by the mungoball lovers we will have to wait for Monday, I have $10 on it being his mom who gave him the tablets

The attitude of, gee I'm really sorry, after they get caught - sounds alot like juvinile offenders courts. Still waiting to hear any athlete come out - before he gets caught out - and ask for help.

The 3 strikes of the AFL and 2 strikes (I think) of the NRL are farcical. Any professional athlete should be on the ASDA list and be tested anywhere, anytime.

In athletics all place getters get an automatic test. applying the same principle to football (all codes), after a team win - select 1/3 rd at random from the winning team, and test immediately - it doesnt take long to give a urine or sputum sample. They can postpone singing (if thats what you can call some of them) a team song for 15 minutes.

Kinda puts a downer on the whole thing though... "Wow congratulations on your win....now if you could just step over here and pee on this spatula that would be fantastic..."

Though I fully support you point. I just think its ridiculous that they're on drugs in the first place...why?! Seriously what is wrong with people today? I must the only person i know to not have touched them once...and what's more...i have no desire to as well...

This post isnt about TWF members and their personal opinions about recreational drug use. What it is about sportsmen earning huge dollars doing something that they hopefully love doing. I am completely gobsmacked when so called players get sprung. Put it down to youth. Too much money at a early age, peer presure etc.We are all different and some cannot handle it. The biggest problem is that they have a very small window of opportunity to set up their futures and many cock it up. Even if you like taking various drugs, surely you would sit back and say .....jesus im on a good wicket here so perhaps i might have to think about this.

I totally agree TLH. However the main problem is most top Sportsmen/women who get into trouble don't think.
Shane Warne is a classic example. He is/was the greatest spin bowler in the world. Dumb as a box of hammers though.
It is us, the sports fans who place these people on pedestals.

Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

And let's not forget the fourth estate (media) who also play a contributing factor in highlighting sportsmen's (& women's) weaker moments. Of course drugs are illegal & not conducive to high performance on the field of play but setting up sting operations (remember Dallaglio?) and sensationalising every last detail of their lives don't help.
