pek cited for last fridays game

Two players will face Judicial Hearings tomorrow night after being cited in the opening round of the Mazda Australian Rugby Championship.

Perth Spirit prop Pekahou Cowan has been cited for Striking an Opponent during the fourth minute of the second half of Perth’s match against the Western Sydney Rams on Friday night.

The hearing will take place at Tuesday August 14th, at the Rugby WA offices, Perry Lakes.

Michael Cashman will be the presiding Judicial Officer.

Meantime Sydney Fleet winger Alfi Mafi has been cited for a Dangerous Tackle in the 27th minute of the match against the Central Coast Rays at North Sydney Oval, also on Friday evening.

The hearing before Judicial Officer Mark Groom will be held at the NSWRU offices, Moore Park.

Now let's see, Michael Cashman is the RugbyWA Chief of the Judiciary for Community Rugby.

The last Tribunal hearing that I am aware of imposed a four week suspension for a striking charge. Surely therefore we will see no less of a penalty imposed for this offence on Mr. Cowan, as an example that such conduct will not be tolerated and in accordance with the ARU minimum scale of penalties, "The Crimes Act".

Somehow I wouldn't recommend anyone hold their breath waiting.

Missed that during the match - did the officials report him during the game or was it picked up upon review of TV footage?

What about the blatant assault by the Lambs' mini half-back on our new star winger...??!! Tried to take the poor lad's head off his shoulders!!!

    Well, having discussed this with one of the officials from the game, it seems that;

    a) They do have video evidence,
    b) It was in the FIRST half, not the second (probably not enough of a technicality to get him off,
    c) Some sort of elbow on his way past a Rams player.

Not sure how much there was in it, but none of the match officials saw it at the time. It's a citing post-match.

    Pek Clear

Pek Cowan should be fine. He should escape without a charge. The player he hit was Josh Holmes, Luke Holmes' younger brother. I assume they would be friends therefore Josh would be unlikely to issue a condeming statement and incident should be dropped.

    Gents and Ladies,

I can confirm that Pek Cowan was severley cautioned last night and is fit to play this week.

The whole striking incident was 2 mates trying to niggle each other through the match. Pek gave Josh and nudge in the ribs with his elbow and Josh fell to the ground like a hollywood actor. I think Josh and Pek have both learnt a lesson.
