It looked pretty inocuous on the TV replay, perhaps a suspended sentence is an OK call.
He'll have to watch as a 2nd infringement (during S14 ?) would see the suspension dropped and added to, could cost him.

    Mafi suspended

    August 15, 2007 - 1:24pm
    Story by: Sportal

There were mixed fortunes for the two players forced to front judicial hearings stemming from the opening round of Mazda Australian Rugby Championship.

Sydney Fleet winger Alfi Mafi gained the dubious distinction as the first player to be suspended in the Mazda ARC's short history after pleading guilty to a dangerous tackle charge following the opening round of action.

Mafi will miss the Fleet's next two matches against the Ballymore Tornadoes and Perth Spirit after he was suspended until August 25 by judicial officer Mark Groom.

There was better news on the west coast with Perth Spirit prop Pekahou Cowan escaping suspension after he was cited for striking an opponent early in the second half of his side's victory over the Rams.

Judicial officer Mark Cashman issued a severe caution leaving Cowan free to play in Friday night's blockbuster against the Canberra Vikings.

If I had, he would have received condign punishment, not a caution!

My problem is not with Pek or with the Spirit. Good luck to both of them.

I have a problem with a sanctimonious judiciary, which when it comes to club rugby players solemnly and ponderously refers to "Crimes Act" penalties and imposes several weeks suspensions for events as trivial as this, but when it affects ther own interests the crimes act goes out the window and the offender is slapped across the wrist with a warm lettuce leaf.

Caution be buggered. If the prescribed penalty is suspension, then impose it.If you want to give the judiciary discretion, do away with the pretence of having prescribed penalties.

It is the falsity of the double standards where the imposition of the prescribed penalty depends on who you are and who you play for that p.sses me off.
