ET Perth Spirit Overpowers Perth Gold

ET Perth Spirit Overpowers Perth Gold
    Wednesday, August 01, 2007 11:49pm
    RugbyWA

The ET Perth Spirit has defeated Perth Gold by 81-0 in the team’s second and final trial game ahead of next week’s Mazda Australian Rugby Championship.

The Spirit scored 13 tries during the clash at Tompkins Park in Palmyra, with 19 year old winger Ratu Siganiyavi scoring four of them.

New Emirates Western Force signing Nick Cummins scored Spirit’s first try after just two minutes.

But determined defence by Gold, which included a number of Firepower Academy players, kept the Spirit out for the next 15 minutes before Siganiyavi scored the first of his four tries. A few minutes later he had his second.

Emirates Western Force flanker David Pocock got on the scoreboard after some great lead-up work from inside centre, Lachlan MacKay, while fellow Investec Super 14 player Richard Brown posted the first of his two tries just before half time.

Coming out of the break with a 33-0 lead, the ET Perth Spirit stepped up a gear, scoring eight tries for the period.

Siganiyavi notched up another two and Brown his second while Scott Fava, Scott Daruda, Dan Bailey, James Stannard and Pek Cowan also scored five-pointers.

Daruda kicked four from five conversions, with Cameron Shepherd posting four from eight.

ET Perth Spirit Head Coach John Mulvihill described the game as another pleasing hit-out leading into Friday week’s Mazda Australian Rugby Championship debut against the Western Sydney Rams.

“We’ve seen that the boys know the patterns and structures and now it’s up to them to execute,” he said.

“The two trial games have been important for us and while a little lopsided, they’ve given us confidence going into next week.”

Last week, in its first trial game, the ET Perth Spirit beat the Adelaide Black Falcons 94-5 in Adelaide.

The Spirit will make its Mazda Australian Rugby Championship debut against the Western Sydney Rams at Members Equity Stadium on Friday 10 August.

Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

No his kicking was just crap! I just got home from it. It had been raining all day but he def wasn't on target. I think after probably the first 20mins the boys enthusiasm pretty much dissipated. I have to say I was more amused by the conversations and pranks they were pulling on each other on the sidelines and the fact that Henjak appeared to have been demoted to water boy given the only time he spent on the field was carrying his mates bottles...

Having said that there were some promising plays - good lineouts, strong scrums and cross and daruda put in solid performances. Shep seemed to be lacking some speed though as well

Shep's kicking looked poor. He was stabbing at the ball, not the sweet swing of the leg that we are accustomed to, however Scott Daruda's kicking looked great. Lets hope Sheps can recover his kicking form soon. I am sure we are going to need it.

A scoreline many expected, especially against the injury riddled force gold team!! daruda has been kicking really well lately, he was the reason we lost to soaks in the 1st round pretty much - but hopefully sheps can get his confidence back because he deserves to be in france for the world cup!! also rumour has it, which i guess i will find out tonight, that sheps and lachy are going to play for baysie this weekend?? thats what word on the street is...
