New stadium to be in Subiaco or East Perth - ABC Online

New stadium to be in Subiaco or East Perth
The State Government is pushing ahead with plans for a new sports stadium for Perth, effectively dismissing the redevelopment of Subiaco Oval.

The Government's stadium taskforce has identified the East Perth power station and Kitchener Park in Subiaco as the best options for the development.

The taskforce has dismissed two other options - Burswood Peninsula and Subiaco Oval - as expensive and risky.

The Minister for Sport, John Kobelke, has described the redevelopment of Subiaco Oval as a 'second rate' option, and says it would be pointless to continue considering it.

"Trying to patch up an old ground is not the way to go. We really do need to be bold and put in place a stadium which is going to serve Perth for the next 40 years or so," he said.

Wonder what the Footy lads will do with Subi when the new one is built then?
Maybe they might sell the land to RugbyWA, would make a great spot for a Rugby Ground...

Maybe RWA should take over the lease. I understand it's only about a buck a year. They could re-develop the seating for for rectangular sports and sub-let it to soccer and rugby league at $250,000 a go to help foot the bill

As long as AFL & Cricket use the new stadium (get over your petty & selfish "change is bad" attitudes) then this is, at least the first step to dragging WA into the 21st century. Then all the State Govt needs to do is to come good on their promise to provide funding for the (re)development of a rectangular stadium that I'll enjoy watching rugby in when I retire (as it'll take that long to be built!!!).
